My Reason behind this Marathon....
My name is Mick and my motivation for running stems from more far than my motivation for running the Nike Melbourne Marathon and is a story too long to share here but the story behind motivation for wanting to complete this marathon, in short, goes like this...I started running for mental health reasons and found myself connecting with my now girlfriend Bec who was dealing with her own mental health issues. We didn't connect through running but more through grief - Bec lost her husband to heart disease when he was just 35yrs old.
Bec's husband, Andrew, was a work colleague of mine. He was fit and healthy and someone that I admired a lot, he was also someone that was there for me through a dark time in my life and I never really had the chance to thank him.
My motivation behind this run is to raise money for the Heart Foundation and to say thankyou to Andrew. And to show my unconditional support to Bec and all the efforts she puts in to this cause.
Bec's strength and resilience is something that I admire most about her. The way she lives her life on a daily basis, the way she has overcome everything that she's been through, and still going through, and to still be the most beautiful, thoughtful and caring person that she is, is the exact reason that I am proud to share this journey with her!
I have never run a marathon before, and until now never thought I would, and I am grateful that I have the opportunity to dedicate this run to Andrew and Bec and their families, and for all the people that live with, or are surviving with heart disease every day.
If we can get to $10,000 I'm going to cut off all my hair as well! So lets get behind this amazing cause and donate all you can, every little bit helps!!

I am so sorry for your loss. My uncle passed of a sudden heart issue whilst riding a motorbike 11 years ago, although not the same as the loss of a spouse, I recall when I heard the news and it’s such a shock.
