2nd Chance Athlete & Ironman 70.3

Its Launch time......

Hi all,
Well its time to officially launch this campaign.
As you would have read, I have signed up for Sunshine Coast 70.3 Ironman Triathlon.
Now don't panic, I have already commenced training and even done a few races.
Ill keep you updated with training and fundraising progress as we move along.
My suffering over the 19km swim, 90km ride and 21.1km run is to help raise awareness and money for the amazing work of the Heart Foundation.
(have a read of the earlier post to see what this is all about).

So don't be shy, make a donation (claim it on tax - its tax time soon!!!!) and help the Heart Foundation do more amazing research so people like me get a second chance. Or better still, cause of their research, avoid nasty little surprises like I had.

Cheers
J

43 years old.................not the age you expect to be having a heart attack.

October 31st 2022, I turn up to swim squad as usual, with the intention of continuing my return to Triathlon after quite a few years away from the sport.
What I didn't plan on................ was suffering a Heart Attack as Swim Squad.
I was only 43 at the time!

I recall getting out of the pool and being confronted by my coach, a squad member (who happens to be an Emergency Room Nurse) and lifeguard as I lay down on the bench seat, rubbing my chest and shoulder and advising I was going to go home and go to bed. Next thing I know....paramedics were all over me.
I am so fortunate that these amazing people ignored my intentions and had called an ambulance.

Sitting in hospital for several days, I was reminded by the cardiologist that not many people at my age get to chat to their Cardiologist about what happened aka get a second chance.

Thanks to the amazing cardiac team, we got to the bottom of the issue and now have a life long strategy in place to reduce the risk of another heart attack, and a wee bit of surgical intervention for help as well.

I love the challenge of Triathlon, especially the physical and mental challenge of the Half Ironman race aka Ironman 70.3. So seeing as the skills and training of the medical teams saved my butt, why not fund raise so that more research and training can be done to hopefully PREVENT Heart attack and Heart Disease and provide expert care to cardiac patients of all ages.

So while I am hauling my middle aged butt around a 1.9km swim, 90km ride and 21.1km run at Mooloolaba in September, you can be assured that my suffering is for a good cause.............as will be your donations.

Thanks for your support.
