2400 kilometres, a 6-metre kayak, 2 and a half months, 1 GREAT CAUSE.
The more I think about it, the crazier it sounds – and the more I need to do it.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia, claiming 48 lives every single day. Affecting 1 in 20 when looking at the entire population, this number climbs to an obscene 1 in 6 over the age of 65.
In short, it is a serious issue.
Five years ago, someone close to me – someone I had looked up to for most of my life – died of a sudden heart attack.
He was the person that put this crazy idea in my head when I was only an early teenager.
Then only a three years ago, a close friend lost his dad to ongoing heart complications.
Combine that with the fact that my own father has a history of cardiovascular issues (that he thankfully caught early), and I had more than enough a reason to pull the trigger.
Next year I am kayaking the entire Murray River – all 2400kms of it – to raise $100,000 for the Heart Foundation.
I estimate this trip is going to take almost 3 months (and come with some seriously nasty saddle burn), but it is something I believe is worth doing if it can help bring awareness to heart disease in Australia.
Importantly, your donation will help the Heart Foundation transform Australia’s heart health by:
- Funding life-changing heart research
- Supporting health professionals working to prevent, diagnose and treat heart disease
- Providing heart-healthy programs and resources for everyday Australians.
Please make a donation today by clicking the “donate” button above. Every donation, big or small will help me get closer to my goal (truly, no donation is “too small”)
All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you’ll get a receipt by email as soon as you make your donation
Thank you for your support and let’s fight heart disease together.
